Splitproof Terms of Use

Effective date: {DATE}
Operator: {your name / dba}, Israel · Contact: {support@splitproof.app}

DRAFT — not legal advice. Legal review required before publishing, especially §6 (disclaimers), §9 (liability), and §11 (governing law) — IL-based operator with a global user base. Placeholders in {braces}.

1. What Splitproof is

Splitproof is a group expense ledger for recording shared expenses and who owes whom. By creating an account or joining a group, you agree to these terms.

2. Not a financial service

Splitproof records IOUs; it never moves money. It does not initiate, process, hold, or confirm payments; it is not a bank, payment institution, money transmitter, or e-money issuer. Balances and settlement suggestions are informational calculations based on data entered by you and your group. Actually paying each other happens outside the app, between you, using whatever method you choose.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate sign-in information and keep your account secure. You must be at least {13/16 per region} to create an account. One person per account. You can delete your account at any time in the app (see the Privacy Policy for what deletion does and doesn't remove).

4. Groups and shared content

Content you enter into a group (expenses, names, amounts, notes) is visible to everyone in that group — that is the product. You're responsible for what you enter, including names of people who don't have accounts ("ghost members") — only add people with a legitimate shared-expense connection to the group. Group members can edit and correct entries; the full edit history is preserved and visible to the group.

5. Acceptable use

Don't use Splitproof to: harass anyone, record unlawful transactions, misrepresent debts, upload unlawful content, probe or disrupt the service, or attempt to access other groups' data. We may suspend accounts that do.

6. Accuracy disclaimer

Balances, currency conversions, and settlement plans are computed from data your group entered and from published reference exchange rates. They are provided as-is for convenience. Exchange rates are indicative (daily reference rates, or manual values entered by group members), not bank or card rates. Splitproof is not responsible for disputes between group members about who owes what — the ledger records what was entered; it doesn't adjudicate.

7. Free service and future paid features

The core service is free. We may introduce optional paid features in the future ({Pro subscription}); paid features will have their own pricing, billing terms (via the Apple App Store / Google Play), and cancellation path, presented before purchase. We'll never retroactively lock away the core ledger, your existing data, or basic CSV export.

8. Your data

Your groups' data is yours: you can export it (CSV, in-app, free) and delete your account at any time. Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

9. Warranties and liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind to the maximum extent permitted by law. {Standard limitation-of-liability clause — legal review; consider cap at amounts paid in prior 12 months, and carve-outs required by consumer law in EU/IL.} Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Changes to the service or terms

We may modify the service and these terms; material changes get in-app notice and a new effective date. Continued use after changes means acceptance. If you don't agree, export your data and delete your account.

11. Governing law and disputes

{Israeli law / courts of {city}, subject to mandatory consumer protections in the user's country of residence — legal review required; EU consumers retain local-forum rights regardless of this clause.}
